A dining table sets the pace of the room: it decides how many people can sit down, how far the chairs pull out and where the light should hang. Tove & Co tables are 160 to 180 cm long, oval or rectangular, on a single fluted pedestal, so nobody ends up with a leg in the way.
Allow 60 cm of edge per person and 90 cm behind each chair. A 160 × 90 cm table seats six for dinner, 180 × 90 cm seats six comfortably or eight for a quick meal, and a 120 cm round pedestal table seats four to six. In a room 3 m wide, a 90 cm deep table leaves the clearance you need on both sides.
An oval dining table has no corners to bump into and seats one more person than a rectangle of the same length, because the ends are usable. A rectangular table lines up with a bench or a sideboard and suits a long room. A round table on a pedestal is the most sociable option for four to six and takes the least floor space for its seats.
Wood-effect tops are easy to live with: wipe with a damp cloth, no oiling. A single fluted pedestal in steel or wood carries the top without legs at the corners, so chairs with arms tuck in anywhere. Table height is 75 to 76 cm, which works with dining chairs of 45 to 48 cm seat height. Hang a pendant 70 to 80 cm above the top, or two pendants over a table longer than 160 cm.
