Wall lights and wall lamps
Wall lights add a second layer of light at eye level and leave every surface free. Fixed either side of a bed, along a hallway or above a sofa, they make a room feel warmer than a ceiling light alone. Our first pieces are arriving from European makers.

Buying guide
How to choose wall lights
Most wall lights are fixed around 1.5 to 1.8 metres from the floor, a little lower beside a bed so the light stays below your eyes when you sit up. Up-and-down designs wash the wall with light and suit hallways and landings, while shaded ones give a softer, warmer glow. Swing-arm models can be pulled out for reading. Hardwired fittings need a registered electrician, and plug-in versions only need a nearby socket, which suits renters. In a bathroom, check for an IP44 rating or higher. Space a pair evenly, about 2 to 2.5 metres apart along a wall, or either side of a mirror, bed or fireplace.
Frequently asked questions
What height should wall lights be?
Around 1.5 to 1.8 metres from the floor in living rooms and hallways, and about 1.2 to 1.5 metres beside a bed, so the light is below eye level when you sit up.
Can I have wall lights without wiring?
Yes. Plug-in wall lights run from a normal socket, with the cable tidied down the wall, which suits renters and rooms without wall wiring.
Which wall lights can go in a bathroom?
Look for an IP rating suited to the zone, usually IP44 or higher near a basin, and have them installed by a registered electrician.
